My niece Rebecca is AWESOME!!! She is only 10, but way more wise and mature beyond her years. She is an amazing athlete. She plays soccer, she’s on the all star basketball team and she is a member of the Woodside One Wheelers, which are a preforming Circus arts group. She juggles and rides a unicycle!
Now there are certain members of my extended family that insist that either girls sports are a waste of time or are a joke. I think they should shove it honestly, because girls can do whatever they want and be just as good as their male counterparts!
Girls Can’t WHAT? is a company that share my views on gender equality. They sell t-shirts, tote bags, hats, you name it. With pictures of girls doing all sorts of things such as playing basketball, playing the drums, 4 wheeling etc.
I wanted to show my support for Rebecca, so Girls can’t WHAT sent me a shirt that I felt was very appropriate:

Have you ever been told you can’t because you’re a girl? Gretchen Cawthon has and she has turned the phrase “Girls Can’t WHAT?” into a mantra for women who break through gender barriers. She’s formed a community whose primary purpose is to help women achieve their dreams and that’s exactly what they’re doing.
Growing up in a neighborhood of all boys, Gretchen learned to throw a football and race BMX bikes. She played Little League baseball every summer and in the 6th grade was one of two girls to make the boys basketball team. During high school she was involved in a serious car accident and doctors questioned whether she would ever walk again. Two weeks after having her vertebrae fused back together she was walking unassisted. Continuing to break gender stereotypes, Gretchen’s first year of college was also a challenging experience as the only female percussion major in a field dominated by guys.
If anyone knows what it’s like to be told you can’t do something because you’re a girl, it’s her.
These childhood experiences prompted Gretchen to create the Girls Can’t WHAT? website in 2005. It is here she shares personal experiences along with amazing stories and interviews from some truly inspirational women. Together, their purpose is to encourage women to pursue their dreams no matter what roadblocks they may encounter.

I like the light rule the world girl design. They are so cute! I have been told I can’t do many things growing up, simply because I am a girl. I’ve even been told I can’t ride a bike! (Which I could.) I have played basketball, softball and hockey. So I showed them all. Now I have 3 nieces, and I never want to hear the word “can’t” because they’re girls! I will always support their ambitions, because any girl can do what they want! Nice give-away.

Love the Military ones. My husband is retired military (30 years) and my daughter is in the Army now serving in Korea!
My favorite is the ice hockey one. It even looks like my daughter. I played ice hockey in high school and now my daughter plays. She is 8. She was one of 2 girls in her age group last season. Other moms frequently tell her how cool they think it is that she plays, and they wish they had the courage to get out there and play with all those boys. Makes a mom proud!
