The Purina Cat Chow Real Stories Project is a nationwide search to find, showcase and celebrate cat stories that highlight the special relationships between cat people and their cats, as well as the many ways our cats are always there for us.
For some reason my family has a knack for getting the most quirky cats for pets. My sister had a cat named Spud who would climb up into the kitchen cabinet, grab a tin of cat food in his teeth, jump down and drop it at her feet if he were hungry. My moms cat Chubba, loved beef stew and would climb up in your lap and try to eat it off your spoon, most of the time succeeding!
My cat Squishy Turniphead, (that’s what you get for letting your kids name the family pet) was also extremely quirky and very mischievous! When Squishy was a kitten he would hop up on top of our dog Griffins crate and torment the heck out of him. Griffin happened to be a Rottweiler, Pitbull, Doberman, and Lab mix who weighed around 180 pounds and he was terrified of this tiny ball of orange fur! It was quite entertaining to watch Griffin cowering in the corner of the crate while Squishy batted and swatted at him. This kitty was afraid of NOTHING!!! Squishy did outgrow tormenting dogs and ended up being best friends with our other dog Padfoot.
As Squishy got older he somehow discovered how to get inside of our couch. Hilarity would always ensue whenever anyone sat down because he would launch an attack on the unsuspecting heiney. He also had a thing for feet. My husband and I had an unfinished ceiling in our basement bedroom and he would climb up there all Ninja like and wait until we fell asleep. In the middle of the night he would dive-bomb onto the bed and attack our unsuspecting piggies. What a goof ball!
