Do you know someone who has given a baby up for adoption? Or have you ever wondered what it feels like to give a baby up? There is a new TV show on Oxygen that should be able to help gain some insight into the “other side” of adoption.
I’m Having Their Baby debuts on on Monday, July 23 at 11/10c on the Oxygen network.
This 6 episode docu-series gives viewers an intimate look into the world of adoption by telling the story that doesn’t get told – that of the birth mothers and their experience in making this difficult and emotional choice. Each episode follows 2 pregnant women who have made the choice to place their babies for adoption, and are dealing with the life changing decisions that follow. Each hour-long episode brings viewers into the adoption process by getting to know the birth mothers, and in some episodes the birth fathers and adoptive families.
I’m Having Their Baby is produced by Hud:sun Media with Michael Rourke and Michelle Kongkasuwan as executive producers.
This show kind of hits home for me because my mom gave a baby up for adoption when she was in her teens and also my best friends mom gave up a baby as well. My mother doesn’t like to talk about it, so this show will give me an idea on what she must have gone through.
I think it takes some immense courage and strength to give up a child. I can’t wait to hear these woman’s stories!
For more on “I’m Having Their Baby,” “like” the show on Facebook and follow on Twitter.
Join me for an OxygenLive chat beginning at 11pm EST on Monday, July 23rd, so we can discuss the show!

Our DD is adopted, in what is an open adoption. It isn’t easy (the openness) but we want her to know that she has always been loved and to have the option of a relationship with her natural mother should she choose it.

I gave up a baby for adoption when I was a teenager. I cried every day of my life for over 6 years. Then I told myself crying wasn’t helping anything. I still cry sometimes, and think of that child often, especially on his birthday, and Christmas, and any time I see anything about adoption. It is not an easy thing to do, giving away your child, but I was not married, had no job, no one to help me, and no where to go.

I think it looks like a great show. More people need to be eduated on the realistic aspects of adoption
Very intriguing premise – at first I was confused about why anyone would want to have such a personal journey seen by millions of viewers, but I think there’s real value in sharing the experience with others who might be facing the same decisions. Looking forward to seeing the first episode!

I think that the topic is very compelling, but I wonder if it’s the best idea to turn it into a reality TV show. What about the privacy of the children involved?

thought provoking and heartwarming
I find it interesting that many adopted children grow up and want to know about their biological parents because they know nothing. This kind of chronicles that whole process for them to be able to look back at.
I am going to give the show a try! I just hope they show normal people and not ones that are way over the top. Adoption is close to my heart, and I hope they show both sides of the families and all the feelings involved. Such a wonderful gift to the new family, yet such hard emotions for the mother. I would love to watch this show, but we don’t get the channel. This is a much more positive show than others that glorify giving birth as a teen and raising, or trying to raise, a child on your own. I don’t think that I would be able to give up a child.

I believe in adoption 100% and have had family use this option. But I do get concerned about young women being talked into this or even being so desperate that sometimes they get easily swayed to do so. I think this is a “neat” concept for a show, as long as the people that agreed to be filmed during this process don’t end up regretting it. I think it’s a good idea to get their side of the story out so that others going through the same situation will relate and know that what they’re doing, while “taboo” (as I see it in our society) that there are others going through the same thing . Other than Teen Mom I can’t think of adoption shows that use the perspective of the person giving the child up for adoption.

SHAME ON that Mary. WOW. Not only did she ruin her own marriage and spread her legs for a dude that never used protection but then she chooses not ONE but TWO sets of parents and screwed them both over. She adored her first couple but then got mad cuz the wife expressed joy over the ultra sound? SHOCKING just SHOCKING. It’s bit ches like her that make adoptive parents RUN to other countries to adopt children. And to keep the child after all said and done it just beyond… She should be ashamed of herself. And Oxygen should have NEVER aired her story.
Totally missed the first show had to take an unexpected trip out of town :/

Watched the first show this morning as I was getting ready for work. I loved Claudias story. I though Mary was selfish and knew along what decision she would make. She had an affair with another man, and became pregnant by him. She cheated on her husband yet made excuses the whole time as to why. I just didn’t like her. I love adoption however and I am a supporter of it.
