One of the best things about living in the beautiful state of Maine is our abundance of fresh seafood! I can go right down the road from my house and pick up fish, lobsters and shellfish that was caught only hours before. We even have fresh, live lobsters at out Farmers Market! Seafood is everywhere!
Maine is still up to it’s eyeballs in snow and winter. Let me tell you that nothing is better on a cold day in New England then a bowl of hot, steaming chowder to warm you up! Here is a great chowder recipe that uses up some of that Shrimp you may have on hand!

Ingredients
- 3 medium onions, sliced
- 3 Tbs olive oil
- 3 cups fish or chicken stock
- 5 medium potatoes, cut in bite sized chunks
- 2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1 lb fresh shrimp, cleaned and de-veined.
- 1 qt milk, heated
- 1 1/2 cups grated cheddar cheese
- 2 tbs minced parsley
Instructions
- Saute onions in olive oil until tender.
- Add stock, potatoes, salt and pepper.
- Bring to a boil, then simmer until potatoes are tender.
- Add shrimp.
- When shrimp is cooked add the warm milk and cheddar cheese.
- Stir gently to combine.
- Top with parsley and serve at once.
Any kind of Chowder of course need some scrumptious biscuits to go with it! Here is my favorite recipe for Cheddar Bay Biscuits.

Ingredients
- 2 cups Bisquick mix
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar
- 2/3 cup milk
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tsp dried parsley
- 1 tsp garlic salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400˚
- Combine Bisquick, garlic powder and cheese in medium bowl. Stir in milk until just combined. Drop lumps of dough onto baking stone and bake for 10 minutes.
- Melt the butter. Stir in parsley and garlic salt. Brush the butter mixture onto the biscuits. Bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until golden brown.

Hi
We visited friends of ours who live in Danvers just north of Boston and we went over to Gloucester and I was so glad to see that the fishing industry was on the up and no longer in decline and your right sea food was abundant. There is nothing I do not like sea food wise so I was well happy to try some dishes. Will certainly give your Shrimp chowder a go looks scruummy
Thanks lee
