The Boys & Girls Clubs of America in partnership with Coca-Cola and Anthem BlueCross BlueShield Foundation are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the the Triple Play Program. This program for kids, focuses on the health of our children’s mind, body, and soul. The Triple Play program encourages parents and children to start practicing healthy lifestyle routines such as maintaining a healthy diet, exercising daily and developing healthy relationships.
With more and more children becoming obese everyday, the Triple Play Program could really turn this trend around. Right now only one quarter of children ages 12-16 are meeting the daily recommended 60 minutes a day of moderate to vigorous physical activity. That’s pretty sad. However since the Triple Play Program came to be in 2005, it has made connections with over 10 million kids, sharing the importance of physical activity and proper nutrition through the program’s three components focused on mind, body and soul. Through the Triple Play program and with support from partners The Coca-Cola Company and Anthem BlueCross BlueShield Foundation, BGCA are motivating kids to be healthy through nutrition, healthy food and health education, avoidance of risky behaviors and a lifelong commitment to physical activity.
BGCA have put a “Parents Game Plan” for the Triple Play Program in a convenient PDF, so that parents can download and participate with their families! None of the activities are too difficult and many don’t require any materials or equipment to participate. The Parent Game Plan is just a small sample of what the Triple Play Program has to offer. So if you have a local Boys & Girls Club stop in to experience all the great elements this program has to offer. I don’t have a local BGCA, so my family had a great time using the Parents Game Plan. My kids loved showing off some of their stretches, doing the balloon swat relay, yoga and doing some muscle strengthening push ups!
