DIY Fall Themed Pillow

DIY Fall Themed Pillow

The Fall season is around the corner and it is a good time to begin decorating the house with fall decorations. Autumn is known for the colorful leaves that fall to the ground creating beautiful patterns of color. The blog at Factory Direct Craft has many tutorials for creative projects and decorations and I check it often when looking for new craft ideas. While searching for some easy to make fall decorations, I found this tutorial which explains how to create a fall themed pillow. This project peaked my interest because pillows provide a great way to decorate your home especially when used to accent furniture.

For this project, you will need: a pillowcase, tree template, Freezer paper, Foam brush, Craft knife, Iron, Brown fabric paint, Fall colored fabric scraps, 1/4 yard of Fusible webbing and a Sewing machine and notions.

Step 1: Create an 8.5 x 11 piece of freezer paper and print the tree template. Once your template is ready cut the image.

Step 2: For the next step, you want to iron the leaf template to the center of your pillowcase.

Step 3: With a sponge, apply the paint, but be careful of the edges.

Step 4: Peel off the template and apply heat. Make sure to follow the instructions for heating your paint.

Step 5: Depending on the amount of fabric scraps your have, you should cut at least 15 leaves.

Step 6: With thread that is the same color as your leaves, begin to stitch the leaves down the center and iron them into position.

step 7: With the project now complete, you can put your decorative pillowcase on the pillow of your choice.

This project was very enjoyable and provided an easy way to begin decorating for the fall season.
