This past December I was given the opportunity to make a fun Gingerbread House using one of BJ’s Wholesale clubs Gingerbread kits. Now even though in the past my gingerbread house making experiences have been an epic failure, I figured that my kiddos were older and less apt to make a mess out of it. In the past I have used those kits that you can find at Walmart and Target. Frankly they are pretty cheaply made and they don’t ever come with enough icing. So it’s no wonder that my previous attempts have been less then stellar!
One of the first things that I noticed about the BJ’s kit was the beautiful box it came in, it was huge, probably twice the size of the normal kits. Then when I opened the kit I noticed that the gingerbread pieces were nice and thick and not as hard as a rock. They also smelled amazing!
The box was full of candy to decorate with too, and many different variety’s as well. I was pleasantly surprised at how much icing that was included also. We ended up with using only a little over half of it, which was a ton better then running out half way through the project!
The instructions for building the house were very easy to follow and not difficult at all. Honestly the hardest part about constructing the house, was having to hold the pieces together for 60 seconds so the icing could harden a bit. After that, decorating was a breeze!
All in all the BJ’s Gingerbread house making kit was the best we had ever used! It also tasted quite yummy and my kids devoured it! Make sure you pick up one of these Kits next year at BJ’s for an extremely fun family holiday activity!
